Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip is a city weakened by wars and besiegment. This has led to dramatic deterioration of socio-economic conditions, including ever growing unemployment and poverty rates.

Here, even this basic necessity of CLEAN, DRINKABLE WATER is difficult to come by. Gaza has long suffered severe water problems, with its aquifer contaminated by sewage, chemicals and seawater. A shortage of electricity means that power plants can not operate which further decreases access to water.

To drink, most citizens depend on imported, bottled water which costs six times as much as regular water.

Dr Yusuf Nagdee in association with the charity organsations, Colours of Hope and Wings of Mercy have embarked on a project to facilitate and provide clean, potable water in Khan Younis to suffice for the needs of about 5,000 to 7,000 people per day.

This will require a solar powered desalination and purification plant which will also provide purified water to an adjacent school, Madrasah and Masjid in a community comprising of about 50,000 people.

For this to materialize we need the assistance of all committed persons to the cause in any possible measure by way of financial contribution (or the like) which will indeed go a long way in easing the lives of our unfortunate Palestinian brothers and sisters. The project is not an inexpensive one, but the rewards for your generous and magnanimous conributions need not even be spelt out.
