Jobstown Primary is a school of 1,117 learners just out of Madadeni, Newcastle, Northern KwaZulu Natal. On our visit to the school on 18 January 2019, we learnt of the many difficulties faced by these enthusiastic learners. Shortage of classrooms and stationery as well as the use of unsanitary pit toilets by both learners and teachers unfortunately are part of the daily challenges at the school. Salaam Foundation accompanied COH as part of their #RidingforSAeducation annual project. The ride for 2019 commenced on 13 January 2019 and culminated on 27 January 2019. COH was impressed at the dedication of the teachers. Jobstown has produced the likes of Professor Stan Sangweni, world renowned academic. Mavuso Msimang, struggle stalwart and former Director General of Home Affairs & Dr. Sandile Khubeka, SA’s youngest doctor (2014). A school has won the national music competition 3 times among other accolades. COH is raising funds for stationery for underprivileged learners.
