Hunger is real... it is a daily occurrence which many have felt or witnessed. Although people may endure being hungry for days, months or even years, it’s something a human just NEVER gets used to.
Gift of Merciful Hearts felt the need to hand out meals at two areas, one in Fordsburg Central and the other in Vrededorp.
Helping Hands Loving Hearts and Colours of Hope sponsored the necessary food items.
A hearty stew consisting of meat and vegetables was cooked and distributed by the Gift of Merciful Hearts team.
The hot meals were then handed out to the homeless, and impoverished...basically, anyone hungry was most welcome to a meal.
Thank you to all those who assisted and made these feeds a success !
God bless. ... See MoreSee Less

Colours of Hope Youth’s first project. Deeply moving. Amidst the pain and suffering, there are many compassionate people out there who make others smile everyday. Keep up the amazing work #BraveBagFoundation. Go go go #COHYouth ... See MoreSee Less
Colours of Hope Youth Group’s very first initiative was a special one indeed!
We jumped at the opportunity to assist the Brave Bag Foundation in creating and distributing goody bags for children with cancer.
These children do not have the opportunities as we do. Their world is confined to a bed in a hospital room, braving the effects of their illness. Thus, we zealously welcomed this wonderful project.
With the assistance and generosity of our sponsors, we had packed 100 bags, each filled with a hand sanitizer, notebook, colouring book, colouring pencils, face cloth, toothbrush, toothpaste, a pack of cheese curls, biscuits and a bandanna.
In recognition of Cancer week, founder of Brave Bag Foundation, Tasneem Docrat and our team met at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital, Parktown on 16 October 2019.
The sisters from the Paediatric Oncology Departments, Sellina Sibanyoni and Operational Manager Ronel Venter, kindly showed us around the wards and related the emotional trauma these children battle.
40 to 60 children visit the hospital daily for treatment. On Fridays, however, these numbers reduce to approximately 20 children.
It is an equally difficult journey for the nurses too. They try their best to put show a brave face but suffer the emotional burden.
We met patients who wearily travelled weekly for treatment. Some leaving at 3am from their homes, to sit in long queues, waiting to be tended to... yet we drew courage from their smiling faces as they expressed immense joy when receiving their gifts.
We were honoured to hand out the care packages to these resilient children who, upon receiving them were deeply grateful and continuously thanked us.
Teary moments for our team, to witness how appreciative these children were to receive our humble gifts.
For our youth team, it was an eye opening experience to see children, as young as 8 months old, dealing with life changing challenges.
LESSON LEARNED TODAY - value health, value simple bounties, notice small miracles, be the reason someone smiles and no matter what the condition... never stop hoping and praying for the best!

Bertha Gxowa Hospital, Germiston a 328 bed hospital, has been revamped a few years ago and it’s new look along with its maternity infrastructure is quite impressive. 500 babies are delivered here monthly.
We were especially pleased that they offer Kangaroo Care, which is exceedingly important to guide mums on how to nuture and bond with their Prem babies.
We liased with Thembeni Mkhabela from P.R who took us and the Afrox team to meet Sister Mofokeng (acting CEO). She explained how and where the bags would be distributed.
Dr Akona Siralarala HEAD OF PAEDIATRICS AND NEONATAL along with Dr Mahlangu HEAD OF OBSTETRICS, expressed their gratitude and desire to work with us on future projects.
113 baby hampers were donated to following wards, viz;
As far as the mums were concerned... let’s say WE were the recipients today... as we recieved THEIR heartfelt prayers.
Colours of Hope was delighted to work with such a willing and vibrant Afrox team. Their aura simply resonated positivity and gratitude!

Making a difference to Mums and babes with Afrox
Each year Afrox runs the Bumbanani Community Volunteering Programme. The aim of the initiative is to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of disadvantaged children in our communities.
Each branch is given the opportunity to set up a Bumbanani Community Volunteering committee. The committee is then responsible for identifying a suitable non- profit organisation to support.
This year the Afrox Customer Engineering Services (CES) department has partnered with the Colours of Hope organisation in their annual baby project. Essential new-born baby items were purchased and hampers containing these items will be packed and distributed to mothers at a local government hospital.
This wonderful project is directly in line with the spirit of Bumbanani Day and will allow the CES team to experience the personal sense of reward that comes from helping those less fortunate.
